Our alternative services center around providing the same educational opportunities while following the necessary safety precautions as provided by the CDC. Students participate in phone and/or video calls and ZOOM classes with their instructors and other students. When safe to do so, staff and students are able to meet at the student’s home for in-person services while maintaining 6 feet in distance and utilizing all personal protective equipment. Students receive worksheets and supplies for completing work while at home. Many students have enjoyed participating in group video classes to work on their learning objectives. Students have been able to set and reach personal exercise goals, enjoyed gardening and outdoor activities, and continued to work hard on their other individual goals.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH

Community Outreach is our community based program where students are able to work on their goals in different community settings. Students receive personalized service within a small group setting. Community Outreach provides volunteer opportunities, educational and recreational goals, and participation a variety of larger group events as well. Like CCC, Community Outreach has modified its traditional program to accommodate the needs of COVID-19 safety guidelines.
Alternative services include phone and/or video calls, ZOOM classes, work packets at home, and project supplies provided for students to complete at home or with a staff in a safe manner. Students and staff who meet for alternative in-person services follow current CDC guidelines for safety to ensure the safety of staff and students.

In-person service will begin to resume on August 2, 2021. We will take every safety precaution necessary as provided by the regional center and by the CDC, while continuing to help each individual receive services and meet their objectives. Transportation services will need to be coordinated with your VMRC service coordinator.
